Built for Bedfordshire and owned by the community it serves.

Care is Central is a local authority trading company, established by Central Bedfordshire Council to deliver outstanding care and independent living services across the county. We are not a national care group. We are not run by a private equity house, and this means any surplus we generate does not leave Bedfordshire.

This is a significant distinction as it shapes everything we do, from how we provide person centered care, how we design our homes, how we pay our staff, how we keep our pricing fair and sustainable, and how we make decisions that put local people and communities first.

A different kind of organisation

Most care providers in the UK are commercial businesses. Some are large national groups. Some are backed by private equity. Profit goes to shareholders, and decisions are made with the next quarter in mind.

Care is Central works differently. As a local authority trading company (LATCo), we were created by Central Bedfordshire Council specifically to deliver care in this part of the world. We are accountable to the communities we serve. When we generate a surplus, it is reinvested into our services and into Central Bedfordshire.

That structure has real consequences for the people who live with us. It means our fees are genuinely lower than comparable private providers in the area. It means we can invest in buildings that are thoughtfully designed, where staffing levels support real, lasting relationships and resources are invested in people and care.

Built for the future, and for the people living in it

Marigold House in Leighton Buzzard and the Red Kite Meadows development in Flitwick have been built to Passivhaus standards, one of the highest energy efficiency standards in the world. This is not just about energy performance. It is about people.

These homes have been designed around the lives of the people who will live, work and visit them. From the layout of the rooms to the shared spaces, from the gardens to the café, the buildings have been shaped to support comfort, independence and dignity.

The design was shaped with residents, families, staff and local partners, so the homes work in real life. Easy to move around, comfortable to spend time in, welcoming for families, and connected to the local community.

At Red Kite Meadows, Brewtopia coffee shop is open to residents, families, neighbours and people passing by. The hair and beauty salon has its own entrance from the street and community rooms are available for local groups, events and activities. Schools, nurseries and community partners are welcomed in, helping people stay connected across generations.

In partnership with CBC, our homes have been built this way because we believe the physical environment is part of the care. Good design should make life easier, safer and more comfortable. It should support staff to do their best work and most importantly, it should help people feel that this is their home.
